Hi all! The Literotica annual Halloween Story Contest is well under way, and there are over 50 entries so far. Now that I’ve read almost all of them, I’d like to pass on a handful of my favorites, for those of you looking for a little fun Halloween reading.
They come from a variety of categories, and range from quick reads that may not take more than 15 minutes, to full novellas that might take several hours to get through.
So here they are, in alphabetical order by title:
Ancient Love At Midnight
By: jacktar48
Category: Romance
“The souls and bodies of old lovers reunite and merge.”
This is one of the few romantic pieces I enjoyed, and it winds together two strands of a tale set in different times: The Depression Era and modern day. This is a story for those of you who appreciate the idea of eternal love and soul mates, and maybe a little Native American magic.
Approximate Length: 5000 words/15-30 minutes read
Dracula’s Daughter
By: TamLin01
Category: Erotic Horror
“Save the men of London from Dracula’s Daughter!”
Note from the author: “The 1936 film “Dracula’s Daughter,” a sequel to the 1931 movie “Dracula” starring Bela Lugosi, was delayed for years because studio censors would not approve the script. In the end the entire project was rewritten from the bottom up, and the released film bore almost no resemblance to the proposed one. This story adapts the rejected scripts. It’s the author’s sincere hope that at least one movie censor rolls over in his grave at it.”
I’m a sucker for a period piece, and this is no exception. I love the 30s dialogue, which was done really well, and I just generally enjoyed the classic horror-film feel of this images this story conjured up.
Approximate Length: 10800 words/40-50 minutes read
Intruders
By: patientlee
Category: Non-Erotic
“I was fucking terrified.”
“Author’s Note: This is the true story of the scariest night of my life. It was twenty years ago, and I remember every minute.”
I can’t say much about this one without spoilers, suffice to say that it both had a sense of humor and had me biting my nails for a bit at the beginning. I was entertained.
Approximate Length: 2200 words/10 minute read
Naughty in the Kitchen
By: MSTarot
Category: Erotic Horror
“A couple has fun in their kitchen but not everyone enjoys it.”
Here’s another one that’s hard to describe without spoilers. A gruesome murder has taken place in the kitchen … does anyone even care? Read it and reserve judgement until you “get it.”
Approximate Length: 1100 words/5 minute read
Purely Sinful
By: Rozalin_0123
Category: Erotic Horror
“A detective in Chicago makes a deal with a sexy succubus.”
There is a lot going on in this story, and rightly so – it is by far the longest of my recommendations here. There’s a gritty crime story, a succubus, angels, demons, and all kinds of other fun. And there’s plenty of sex.
Approximate Length: 54500 words/3-4 hour read
Soul Service, Inc.
By: CQtRose
Category: Sci-Fi & Fantasy
“When you’re just dying to get from here to there.”
I’m not saying it was aliens, but … This falls squarely into the sci-fi section of this category, and personally I found this story hilarious. It has a depraved, nutty sense of humor, and some fun Aliens-come-to-earth-on Halloween-night sex. Plus, have you ever heard a hot alien chick banter with her ship’s slutty AI? Well then get in and read this story!
Approximate Length: 7600 words/25-30 minute read
Zingara – Being Finn
By: xelliebabex
Category: Illustrated
“Running with the Wolf Clan.”
This story looks like the beginning of a longer series, but it did hold my interest. Looks like we have some werewolves, some witches, and other supernatural elements, along with some teen romance among a gypsy-type crowd. I’ll be interested to see where this author takes it. Story has a few pictures, but all are SFW.
Approximate Length: 7600 words/25-30 minute read
But, as our good friend LeVar Burton would say, “Don’t take my word for it!” These are just the stories I’ve liked, and my taste might be different than yours. If you want, you can go directly to the contest main page and browse all the titles. Be aware, that the main page only shows title and author name, though, and no category listing. So when you click on a story, be sure to take note of its category once you’ve arrived on its first page, or you might find yourself accidentally reading in a genre that squicks you out! And nobody wants that. Party Foul, yo.
Last, but not least, if you haven’t yet read The Fall of Rowland Graves (my entry), I’d love for you to check it out! [UPDATE SEPT 9, 2015: This story has been removed from Literotica. You can find information about its future as an ebook here.] It’s around 22K words long, and should take the average reader about an hour and a half to finish. It’s in Erotic Horror, though that’s kind of an eclectic category, so don’t be fooled: my story doesn’t have any large amount of gore like a slasher flick. It’s more like Poe meets O’Henry in 1692, with some sex thrown in for good measure. If you’re a fan of The Devil’s Luck you may just want to see what made our creepy surgeon the monster that he was.
Hope everyone is having a fun and safe Halloween season! More stories to come!
