After Exile Book I: An Emperor for the Eclipse

Home After Exile Book I: An Emperor for the Eclipse

After Exile Book I: An Emperor for the Eclipse

He was expendable. He was a sacrifice. He was the emperor.

Raothan Ga’ardahn wants to take his own life. Twelve years in exile have a way of beating a man down, and the shameful secrets of his past, no matter how far buried, weigh enough to keep him that way. The last thing standing between him and oblivion is a sign from the gods. That, and a unit of Imperial Guard trooping onto his farm one late summer’s afternoon. What could the empire possibly want with a foreigner like him?

Across the continent, the Taunai heed the warnings of their dead: act to correct an unforeseen fracture in the Pattern of events, or face annihilation. Niquel, their bravest Questioner, accepts the challenge to descend into the dangers of the lowlander capital for the good of her people. A journey alone away from her snowy mountain home awaits. Any worry about the strange man in her dreams will have to come later.

When the paths of the two outsiders cross on the steps of the imperial palace at Protreo, the fate of the empire shifts. One the Novamneans call ‘exile’, the other they call ‘witch’. Neither will ever be the same.

Eris Adderly transports you to a complex world of ancient empires, impossible alliances, politics, and mystery. Fate and free will do a murderous dance across the page, and suspicious second chances forge enemies and lovers at every turn.

One of the best fantasy novels I’ve read this year.

“I found this to be a HIGHLY engaging read, one of the best fantasy novels I’ve read this year. … the world is bright, colorful, engaging, and well-described, with vivid details that make it an absolutely enthralling read. … If you like fantasy and erotica, this is a book you’ll definitely enjoy!“

A distinct and chewy fantasy world.

“Eris Adderly has a strong command of her fantasy world and its inner logic from the very beginning and throughout this first book … This is a drama with many, oh-so-human elements in it … The narrative is not dense or pretentious in the least (and the sex is complex, varied, and has real bearing on the plot … The details matter, and they invite questions about how the world works.“

When is HBO going to pick this up as a series?!?!?!?

“Like A Song of Ice and Fire, that’s what I thought while reading this book. …  The protagonist is a pure bad ass who is not an arrogant twat but has been humbled by his experiences. … If you want a light read, look elsewhere, but if you are in the mood to be transported to another world I highly encourage you to invest some time in this book. I was thoroughly captivated from page one of this book.“

You are so TALENTED! I am hooked on your story After: Exile! Bravo, bravo, bravo! Game of Thrones has only 2 seasons left. This needs to be shopped around to HBO. There is an appetite for this sort of fantasy/political drama. And it hella sexy too!

Wow! What a nice thing to say! I’ve been threatening to start reading GoT for some time now. It’s right up my alley with the sort of books I enjoy, but I’ve been watching the TV show and I think I want to wait until the show is done, so I don’t do the thing where I compare it to the books and get all annoyed (which I will – hehe). I’m so happy to hear anyone is liking this story. Sometimes it feels like it’s my ugly baby and I’m the only one who loves it. Book two is going to be better, I swear! Once we can get past the eclipse hump, we’re really going to expand more into the world and its people and issues. Thank you again so much for reading. You made my night!

Is there still a book 2 coming? I’ve been not so patiently waiting! I’m very curious what is to happen with doxolemy’s part of the plot. Great writing.
